In a statement issued on Saturday, October 24, detectives said an intelligence-led operation led to Sang’s arrest. The operation followed information provided by members of the public, helping investigators trace the suspect to Uasin Gishu County.
How Detectives Arrested the Inspector
DCI officers from the headquarters arrested Sang along Uganda Road in Eldoret’s central business district. He was reportedly driving a silver Toyota Fielder when detectives intercepted him.
Investigators claim Sang had been hiding for several months while evading arrest. Authorities further alleged that he was attempting to sell the vehicle to raise money for his daily expenses.
The DCI described the arrest as a significant development in investigations into the deaths of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu and Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso. According to the agency, Sang was the last key suspect still being sought by detectives.
Police have now taken him into custody as investigators continue gathering evidence. The DCI said detectives were pursuing additional leads to establish the circumstances surrounding both killings and determine whether more people were involved.
Investigations Connect Two Separate Killings
Dr Mutiso was shot dead in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area on July 29, 2026. Lawyer Mbobu was killed on September 9, 2025, while driving home from work along Magadi Road.
The two killings occurred nearly one year apart, but investigators later identified possible links between the cases. The DCI recently announced that suspects connected to Mutiso’s murder also had interests in Mbobu’s killing.
Detectives allege that Inspector Sang helped coordinate operations connected to Mbobu’s murder. They also suspect he coordinated communication with another individual who is already in custody.
However, the full circumstances surrounding the alleged coordination remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet publicly established all the details concerning the planning, motive and execution of the two killings.
Other Suspects Remain in Custody
Sang’s arrest follows the detention of two other police officers, both reportedly constables, over the murders. The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved murder charges against the two officers and three other suspects from the same family.
The prosecution’s decision marked another development in the ongoing investigations and court proceedings. The cases remain active as authorities pursue evidence against the individuals suspected of involvement.
The DCI said investigators were continuing to examine additional leads to determine the full extent of the alleged conspiracy. Their work includes establishing whether other individuals participated in the killings and clarifying the roles allegedly played by each suspect.
Sang’s arrest now places another key suspect in police custody as investigators pursue the remaining questions. The allegations against him remain subject to the ongoing legal process, and the court will determine criminal responsibility based on the evidence presented.
