Oburu Odinga Hospitalised Again Weeks After UK Medical Trip
The ODM leader has been receiving care at the Nairobi facility since Saturday, according to a hospital source quoted by The Star.
Oburu Under Medical Care
The latest hospital stay comes shortly after Oburu spent about three weeks in the UK, where he underwent what was described as a routine medical check-up.
The senator had travelled to Britain in September after advice from his doctors and ODM leadership, with the party saying the visit was for medical tests.
A source at Nairobi Hospital said Oburu was being treated for a chronic illness.
No further details about the illness or his current condition had been publicly released by his family or ODM.
Recent Health Concerns
Oburu's latest admission follows several health-related reports involving the veteran politician in recent weeks.
Before travelling to the UK, he had briefly visited Nairobi Hospital and later rejected reports that he had been seriously ill, saying he had only gone for a general check-up.
His overseas trip was subsequently confirmed by ODM, with the party saying he was in good spirits while undergoing the routine medical examination.
Oburu also said the UK visit would give him an opportunity to rest and attend to health needs associated with advancing age.
ODM Leadership
The latest development comes as Oburu continues to serve as ODM party leader and Siaya Senator.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga said on Sunday that she had visited Oburu after his return from the UK and found him in high spirits, although he needed time to regain his strength.
Wanga also dismissed suggestions that Oburu had been advised to step aside from ODM leadership because of his health.
She said the party leader continued to guide the party while taking time away from public activities to recover.
