The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened nominations for the 2026 World Teachers’ Day Awards, giving teachers and school administrators an opportunity to receive national recognition.

TSC has set August 26 at 11pm as the deadline for nominations. The commission will recognise educators who demonstrate excellence, innovation, leadership and outstanding service.

Teachers Can Compete in Several Categories

The awards cover several areas, including Lifetime Achievement, Early Years Educator, Early Career Educator and School Leadership Excellence.

Other categories include Inclusive Educator, Child Protection Champion, Teacher Mentor, Co-curricular and Talent Development, and Innovation and ICT Integration in Teaching.

TSC will also recognise educators under the Most Resilient Teacher, National Honours, Sustainable Development Educator and International Recognition categories.

Evidence Required

Nominees must provide evidence of their achievements and demonstrate the impact of their work.

TSC will consider factors such as teaching and learning outcomes, innovation, inclusivity, responsiveness to learners and the potential for other institutions to adopt successful practices.

Teachers can nominate themselves, while colleagues and school heads can also nominate eligible educators.

A teacher can submit a self-nomination in a maximum of two categories. Peer and institutional nominations can cover up to two teachers.

Selection Process Begins After Deadline

TSC will first check applications for eligibility before sending them to selection panels at sub-county, county and regional levels.

The panels will identify the top nominees at each stage before forwarding the strongest candidates for national consideration.

The commission plans to recognise the final award winners during World Teachers’ Day celebrations on October 5.

The awards come as TSC continues efforts to recognise teachers who make notable contributions to education across the country.
