KNEC Warns Schools Over KPSEA Rules That Could Affect All Candidates

President William Ruto Distributes Exam Papers to Learners

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has warned schools and candidates against misconduct during the 2026 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

The council says widespread irregularities at an assessment centre could lead to the cancellation of the entire assessment, individual papers or results for all candidates at the centre.

Misconduct Could Affect Entire School

KNEC holds schools and assessment officials responsible for maintaining proper examination conditions.

If widespread cheating, dishonesty or other irregularities occur at a centre, the council can cancel the affected papers or the entire assessment.

A candidate who commits an individual offence may also lose the opportunity to continue with the assessment.

Double Registration Also Banned

KNEC classifies double registration as an assessment irregularity.

Candidates involved in such cases can face disqualification.

The council has also maintained its ban on calculators in all KPSEA papers, including Mathematics.

Sharing Exam Materials Carries Heavy Penalties

KNEC has warned against accessing and sharing assessment materials without authorisation.

A person who knowingly shares KPSEA materials with an unauthorised individual could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to Ksh2 million, or both.

Anyone who deliberately damages assessment materials could face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to Ksh5 million, or both

KPSEA Set for October

The 2026 KPSEA will take place from October 26 to 29.

KNEC expects schools, teachers, assessment officials and candidates to follow the regulations throughout the exercise.
