Arsenal Open Talks for Julian Alvarez as Barcelona Remain His Preferred Destination

Athletico Madrid Forward Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid have agreed to discuss a possible transfer of Julian Alvarez with Arsenal, but the Argentine forward reportedly prefers a move to Barcelona.

Alvarez has told Atletico that he wants to leave the club to pursue what he calls his dream transfer.

Alvarez Wants Barcelona Move

The 26-year-old joined Atletico from Manchester City in 2024 for £81.5 million.

He has scored 49 goals and provided 17 assists in 106 appearances for the Spanish club.

Alvarez recently made his position clear, saying he wants a transfer after discussions with people at Atletico.

However, Atletico reportedly remain unwilling to sell him to Barcelona, despite the player's preference for the Catalan club.

Arsenal Enter Transfer Race

According to reports from Spain, Atletico are willing to negotiate with Arsenal over a potential deal.

The Premier League champions have shown interest in Alvarez as they consider strengthening their attack.

However, Alvarez reportedly does not want the move and has rejected the idea of joining Arsenal.

Barcelona remain his preferred destination, although their pursuit has reportedly cooled as the club considers other striker options.

Alvarez Misses Atletico's Season Opener

The transfer uncertainty comes after Atletico left Alvarez out of their squad for their La Liga opener against Malaga.

Coach Diego Simeone attributed the decision partly to Alvarez's recent involvement with Argentina.

Simeone nevertheless praised the forward and insisted that Atletico still value his ability.

With the transfer window approaching its final stages, Alvarez's next move remains uncertain. Arsenal have an opportunity to negotiate with Atletico, but the player's preference for Barcelona could complicate any potential deal.
