Several Feared Dead After Matatu and Car Collide on Mombasa Road

The accident happened on Thursday night, August 20, between Quiver Mombasa Road and Katani. Some reports put the death toll at eight, although authorities had yet to confirm the figure.
Vehicles Crash Into Ditch
Preliminary reports indicate that the matatu was heading towards Nairobi when it collided with a black saloon car travelling towards Katani.
The impact sent both vehicles into a ditch and left them badly damaged.
Images from the scene showed extensive damage to the front section of the 18-seater matatu. The windscreen and driver's cabin suffered severe damage.
The saloon car also sustained heavy damage and landed head-first in the ditch.
Emergency Teams Respond
Emergency teams rushed to the scene and began helping those involved in the crash.
However, the number of people rescued and the extent of their injuries remained unclear at the time of reporting.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and establish its cause.
Crash Adds to Recent Road Deaths
The Mombasa Road crash comes amid several serious accidents reported across Kenya in recent days.
On August 17, a Range Rover collided with a motorcycle along Riverside Drive in Westlands, Nairobi, killing the boda boda rider and the vehicle's driver.
The Kenya Red Cross reported that 31 people died and 75 others suffered serious injuries in 23 road crashes during the first two weeks of August.
