Kileleshwa Ward Representative Robert Alai has suggested he could run for the Nairobi Senate seat in the 2027 General Election.
Alai, who currently serves as a Member of County Assembly, has increasingly taken a strong interest in Nairobi City County affairs. He has often criticized how City Hall is managed and pushed for tighter accountability in county operations.
His latest comments came after reports that millions of shillings were recovered from the home of a senior Nairobi County official linked to alleged corruption. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has since launched investigations and moved to prosecute the official.
The official, Patrick Analo, who serves as Nairobi’s Chief Officer for Urban Planning, is under scrutiny after the alleged discovery of large sums of cash at his residence. Investigators are now examining possible links to corruption within the department.
In his reaction, Alai accused some individuals within the urban planning department of running it like a cartel. He called on the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to take firm action and ensure all those implicated are charged.
Alai urged authorities to carry out a full cleanup of the department, arguing that corruption cases have weakened service delivery in Nairobi.
Some observers, however, have noted that Alai has been increasingly vocal on matters beyond his ward duties. Others contrast his active stance with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who has been more restrained in public commentary on City Hall affairs.
Alai’s latest remarks have added to growing political discussion around Nairobi leadership ahead of the 2027 elections, with possible Senate contests already shaping up.
