Farouk Kibet Rushes to Save Wetang’ula After Speaker Stumbles at Bungoma Church
The incident happened on Sunday, October 4, at St Peter’s ACK Mungore Church in Bumula Constituency, where several senior political leaders had gathered.
Farouk Kibet Steps In
Wetang’ula had been invited to address the gathering by President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, who was already speaking to the congregation.
As the Speaker moved towards the podium, he appeared to stumble and fell, prompting Kibet to move quickly and hold his hand.
Other people at the venue also rushed forward, helping Wetang’ula regain his footing and stand upright.
The incident was captured on video and later circulated widely, drawing attention to the brief scare involving the National Assembly Speaker.
Speaker Continues With Programme
Wetang’ula appeared to quickly regain his composure after being helped up and continued participating in the event.
He was later seen joining other leaders in dancing as the programme continued, with no official statement indicating that he had suffered a serious injury.
Among the leaders present were Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, Senator David Wakoli and Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, alongside other local political leaders.
The event brought together prominent figures from Western Kenya and also featured fundraising activities for the church.
The moment nevertheless attracted significant attention because of the Speaker's brief loss of balance in front of the congregation and the quick response by those around him.
