Githurai Bus Hit by Train in Evening Railway Crash

The incident occurred at about 6:30pm and left the bus, a nearby vehicle and a structure damaged.
Impact Sends Bus Along Railway Line
The train struck the bus on the driver’s side before the vehicle could clear the tracks.
The force of the collision pushed the bus along the railway line and also dragged a parked vehicle.
Debris spread across the area as dust and smoke filled the scene, prompting bystanders to move away.
Driver Escapes After Crash
The bus driver quickly got out of the vehicle after the collision as members of the public gathered at the scene.
Initial reports indicated that nobody died or suffered serious injuries during the crash.
The bus belonged to a Githurai 45 SACCO and was travelling from Nairobi CBD towards Githurai.
Train Was Heading to Ruiru
The train, marked 9306, was operating the Nairobi Central Station-Ruiru passenger service when it reached the crossing.
The accident has renewed concerns about safety at railway crossings, particularly where roads intersect active train lines.
Kenya Railways has urged road users to use designated crossings, check for approaching trains and avoid racing trains across railway tracks.
