Kenya Met Names 16 Counties to Receive Rainfall This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a fresh weather outlook showing that rain will fall in 16 counties over the coming days. The agency also expects cool temperatures in parts of central Kenya while many regions remain largely dry.

Forecasters urged residents to keep track of daily weather updates as conditions may vary across the country. The latest outlook takes effect from Monday, July 13.

The department expects rainfall in Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Kericho and Nakuru. Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisii, Nyamira, Vihiga, Bomet and Narok will also receive showers during the forecast period.

Rainfall intensity and timing may differ from one area to another throughout the week. Residents should therefore remain alert for changing weather conditions.

Central Kenya to Experience Chilly Conditions

The weather agency predicts cool and cloudy conditions across several central counties. Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Murang'a, Kirinyaga, Meru, Laikipia and Tharaka-Nithi will experience lower daytime temperatures.

The cooler weather could extend into the evenings and early mornings in some areas. Residents may therefore require warmer clothing during the week.

Several counties in northern and coastal Kenya will continue recording hot daytime conditions. Turkana, West Pokot, Samburu, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir, Tana River, Lamu and Kilifi could register temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius.

The department encouraged people living in these regions to remain hydrated during the hottest hours. Outdoor workers should also take precautions against prolonged heat exposure.

Some Areas to Record Cold Nights

The forecast further shows that night temperatures could drop below 10 degrees Celsius in several counties. Baringo, Nakuru, Narok, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang'a, Kirinyaga, Meru, Laikipia, Kajiado, Tharaka-Nithi and Taita Taveta are among the affected areas.

The department advised residents to prepare for chilly nights and cold early mornings. Low temperatures may continue throughout most of the forecast period.

The latest forecast comes after changing weather patterns affected many parts of Kenya during the previous week. Earlier forecasts also highlighted strong winds in parts of northern, eastern and coastal counties.
