Governor Nyong'o Speaks After Deadly Kisumu Violence Leaves Two Dead

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has broken his silence after violent clashes claimed two lives in the Milimani area. He confirmed that police have arrested eight suspects as investigations into the incident continue.

The governor condemned the violence, saying it disrupted peace and destroyed property within the neighbourhood. He assured residents that security agencies had already launched action against those linked to the unrest.Nyong'o said the County Security Authority reviewed the incident shortly after the clashes occurred. He confirmed that the suspects will face the justice system as detectives continue gathering evidence.

The governor co-chairs the county security team alongside County Commissioner Mohammed Ramadhan Mwabudzo. He said authorities remain determined to ensure everyone responsible answers for their actions.

Security Operations Intensify Across Kisumu

The governor revealed that police have expanded security operations throughout Kisumu County following recent criminal incidents. He disclosed that officers have arrested about 200 suspects during the ongoing crackdown.

Investigators are examining every case before forwarding the files for prosecution in court. Authorities believe the operations will strengthen security and discourage criminal activities across the county.

Nyong'o expressed concern that some young people continue joining violent groups instead of pursuing productive opportunities. He said such actions threaten the county's efforts to attract investment and create employment.

The governor encouraged young people to embrace lawful work instead of participating in acts of violence. He added that peaceful communities provide a stronger foundation for economic growth and development.

Organisers of Violence Receive Warning

Nyong'o also warned individuals accused of sponsoring or coordinating violent activities within the county. He maintained that security agencies will continue pursuing everyone found supporting criminal acts.

He assured residents that the county government remains committed to protecting businesses and maintaining public order. The governor said lasting peace remains essential for Kisumu's continued development.

Separately, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya urged religious leaders to pray for Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election. She said national peace should never be taken for granted despite the country's political differences.

Tuya also cautioned politicians against promoting tribal divisions while addressing public gatherings. She urged leaders to safeguard national unity and preserve the peaceful environment enjoyed across much of the country.
