Over 50 Students Injured After School Bus Overturns on Eldama Ravine–Nakuru Road

Residents gathered around an overturned school bus in Eldama Ravine, Nakuru County

More than 50 students suffered injuries after a school bus overturned along the Eldama Ravine–Nakuru road on Wednesday morning. The accident happened near Kibasiso area at around 9 am during a trip to the regional music festivals.

The bus belonged to Pineview Academy Kiplogon and carried about 59 learners from two schools. All students sustained injuries of varying severity, but none of the injuries appeared fatal.

Preliminary reports suggest the bus experienced brake failure before the crash. The driver lost control, and the vehicle veered off the road before overturning.

Investigators have linked the incident to a possible mechanical fault. Authorities continue to inspect the vehicle to confirm the exact cause.

Emergency Response and Hospital Admissions

First responders rushed to the scene and evacuated the injured students. Medical teams admitted the learners to several hospitals for treatment.

The victims received care at Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Ravine Specialist Hospital, and Eldama Ravine Nursing Home. Health workers continue to monitor their condition.

Police officers from Eldama Ravine Police Station cordoned off the accident area. They collected evidence and began investigations into the circumstances of the crash.

Images shared online showed the bus severely damaged and lying on its side. Rescue teams worked for hours to retrieve trapped passengers and clear the scene.

Rising Concerns Over School Transport Safety

The accident occurred days after another school transport tragedy in which a matatu overturned and injured learners. That earlier crash killed the driver and left several students injured.

Authorities now face growing pressure to enforce stricter safety standards for school transport vehicles. The back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about road safety across the country.
