Harambee Starlet U-17 Women Players Celebrates a Goal

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has urged Kenyans to turn out in large numbers and support the Junior Starlets as they chase qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

The Junior Starlets will face South Africa's Bantwana in a decisive two-legged final qualifying round. Victory over the South Africans will secure Kenya a second consecutive appearance at the global tournament.

FKF Calls for Massive Fan Support

Speaking ahead of the crucial fixtures, Mohammed described the tie as one of the most important moments for the national youth team. He said fans can play a vital role in helping the players achieve another historic qualification.

"This is a defining moment for the Junior Starlets. A crucial FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualifier awaits, with a two-legged tie against South Africa standing between the Junior Starlets and their World Cup dream," Mohammed said.

The FKF president encouraged supporters to fill Nyayo National Stadium for the return leg. He urged Kenyans to become the team's "12th player" by creating a strong home atmosphere.

"The girls need your support. Be the 12th man; let's fill the stands and cheer them on. Your support is the advantage we need to push the team over the line. Tupatane Nyayo mapema!" he added.

Kenya to Host Decisive Second Leg

The first leg will take place in Pretoria, South Africa, on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Kenya will then host the return match at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Head coach Mildred Cheche's side will have the advantage of playing the decisive match at home. The outcome will determine whether Kenya returns to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after making history in 2024.

The Junior Starlets have intensified preparations ahead of the two matches. The team hopes to build on its impressive performances throughout the qualification campaign.

Strong Run to the Final Round

Kenya reached the final qualifying round after eliminating Uganda. The Junior Starlets held Uganda to a goalless draw in the second leg at Nyayo National Stadium on May 30, 2026.

The result followed a valuable 1-1 away draw at FUFA Stadium in Kampala on May 22. Kenya advanced on aggregate to keep its World Cup dream alive.

The team has emerged as one of Kenya's biggest success stories in youth football. Another qualification would further cement its growing reputation on the continental stage.

Tough Test Awaits Against South Africa

South Africa will provide Kenya's toughest challenge in the qualifiers. Bantwana booked their place in the final round after defeating Tanzania 2-0 on aggregate.

The South Africans will look to use home advantage in the first leg before travelling to Nairobi for the decisive encounter. Kenya, meanwhile, will hope strong home support helps the team overcome the final hurdle and secure another place at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
