TSC Releases County Breakdown of 20,000 Junior School Teaching Posts
The jobs are on permanent and pensionable terms. Applications closed on August 31, and interviews and document verification will happen in November.
Who the Posts Target
The vacancies mainly aim to confirm junior school interns hired in January 2025. Their two-year internship ends on December 31, 2026.
The exercise should move them to permanent terms from January 2027. TSC Chairperson Jamleck Muturi says a separate recruitment and replacement exercise will run in the same period.
Biggest County Shares
Kakamega leads with 994 posts, followed by Kitui with 959. Bungoma and Nakuru tie at 800 each.
Machakos, Makueni, Meru, Kisii, Homa Bay, and Narok complete the top ten. These ten counties hold about 7,540 posts, roughly 38 percent of the total.
Smallest County Shares
Isiolo has the fewest posts at 84, followed by Lamu with 90 and Samburu with 103. Garissa, Tana River, Marsabit, Wajir, Mombasa, and Mandera also have fewer than 160 each.
Arid and semi-arid counties together hold about 1,190 posts, or roughly six percent. Turkana is the largest among them with 223.
Regional Picture
Rift Valley holds the largest block with 5,803 posts, about 29 percent of the total. Eastern follows with 3,891, and Nyanza has 3,298.
Western has 2,580 posts, while Central has 1,967 and Coast has 1,468. Nairobi gets 566, and North Eastern gets just 427.
Sub-County Competition
Chepalungu in Bomet has the largest allocation with 136 posts. Mwala in Machakos follows with 129, and Nandi North has 125.
Some sub-counties have only a handful of slots. Illeret in Marsabit has just two, while Lokiriama, Bothai, Lagdera, and Khorofharar have three each.
Interns' Concerns
Interns say they expected interviews before schools close this week. They now face a narrow window between November interviews and January's start date.
Many interns will travel home when schools close and may travel again for interviews. TSC says it will invite applicants one week before interviews, which interns call short notice.
What Applicants Should Do
Applicants should confirm their phone numbers and emails on their TSC accounts. They should also gather original certificates, their TSC registration certificate, and their national identity card.
They should check their sub-county figure and plan their travel for early November. Unemployed teachers should watch for the additional recruitment advert and apply quickly.
