Knec Lists Items Grade 6 and Grade 9 Learners Need for Assessments

Knec has published the items learners need for KPSEA and KJSEA. Rehearsal day is Friday, October 23, 2026, and written papers start on Monday, October 26.

Parents are advised to check school bags and replace worn stationery early. They should also budget for any missing items.

Grade 6 Kit

KPSEA candidates need a geometrical set, an HB pencil, a clipboard, a pen, and a 30cm ruler. The geometrical set costs about Ksh200 to Ksh350, and a clipboard costs the same.

A full Grade 6 kit costs roughly Ksh270 to Ksh580, depending on quality and brand. Parents should check that the geometrical set is complete and the ruler shows centimetres and millimetres.

Grade 9 Kit

KJSEA candidates need all the Grade 6 items plus a Casio calculator and four-figure mathematical tables. The calculator costs Ksh800 to Ksh1,200, while the tables cost about Ksh500.

A full Grade 9 kit costs between Ksh1,570 and Ksh2,280. Parents should confirm the exact calculator model with the school before buying.

KPSEA Timetable

Mathematics opens the assessment on Monday, October 26, from 8.30 am to 9.50 am. English follows at 10.50 am after a 30-minute break.

Integrated Science and Kiswahili take place on Tuesday, October 27. Creative Arts and Social Studies closes KPSEA on Wednesday, October 28, from 8.30 am to 10.10 am.

KJSEA Timetable

English papers run on Monday, and Kiswahili and Kenyan Sign Language papers run on Tuesday. Mathematics takes place on Wednesday, October 28, from 8.30 am to 10.30 am, followed by Agriculture.

Integrated Science, Social Studies, and Creative Arts and Sports fill Thursday, October 29. Pre-Technical Studies, religious education, and the final Integrated Science paper close KJSEA on Friday, October 30.

Projects and Practicals

KJSEA also includes project and practical work completed earlier this year. Creative Arts and Sports ran from May to July 2026, and Pre-Technical Studies took one month.

The Agriculture practical was scheduled for July 2026. Learners therefore sit only written papers during the assessment week.

Special Needs Provisions

Large print versions of the main papers follow the same timings as standard papers. Braille candidates receive extra time, such as 2 hours 30 minutes for KJSEA Mathematics.

Hearing-impaired candidates get additional time in English papers. KPSEA candidates in this group sit English for 1 hour 20 minutes instead of one hour.

Tips for Parents

Parents should replace broken or faded items now and buy reliable, not necessarily expensive, equipment. They should also pack spare pens and a sharpened extra pencil.

Learners should practise with their own calculator and mathematical tables before exam week. They should arrive early, since papers begin at 8.30 am each day.
