Sifuna Unveils TEP as Political Vehicle for 2027 Presidential Bid
The announcement was made in Nairobi on Sunday, October 4, as Sifuna moved to formalise the political vehicle through which his presidential ambitions will be pursued.
TEP Takes Centre Stage
TEP party leader Gilbert Marava announced that the party had agreed to restructure its leadership to accommodate Sifuna and other members of the Linda Mwananchi Movement.
Marava said Sifuna would take over as the party’s leader and contest the presidency using the TEP ticket.
The party was officially registered in March 2022 and has its headquarters along Mtito Andei Road, off Lenana Road in Nairobi.
TEP uses gold and emerald colours, with a weighing scale serving as its symbol to represent its focus on equality, fairness and social justice.
Its slogan, Tusawazishe, translates to “let us make it equal” or “let us balance.”
TEP Joins Linda Mwananchi Movement
The party is expected to operate under the wider Linda Mwananchi Movement, which has been associated with Sifuna's efforts to build a political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development follows the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi Movement name and abbreviation, LMM, by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties after a decision by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
Other parties linked to the movement include The Mwananchi Party led by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and the United Democratic Party led by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
Siaya Governor James Orengo is also expected to unveil another party associated with the movement.
Opposition Talks Ahead of 2027
Sifuna’s unveiling comes as opposition figures continue efforts to establish a broader political arrangement ahead of the next General Election.
The Linda Mwananchi Movement is expected to engage other opposition formations as discussions continue over a possible joint presidential candidate.
The proposed negotiations are expected to include other opposition alliances, with the question of a single candidate likely to remain central to the discussions ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
