Gachagua Links Late Chivayo to Alleged South Korean Election Rigging Technology Plan
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has linked the late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo to an alleged plan involving South Korean election technology ahead of Kenya's 2027 polls.
Gachagua alleged that Chivayo was expected to serve as a local agent in an arrangement involving the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and a South Korean technology company.
Alleged Technology Deal
According to Gachagua, the alleged arrangement involved introducing technology from South Korea to manage aspects of Kenya's next election.
He further claimed that tender specifications had been tailored to favour the South Korean company, which he identified as Miru Systems.
Gachagua alleged that Chivayo was the person expected to facilitate the arrangement locally before his death in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe.
He further claimed that the technology was intended to assist an alleged attempt to manipulate the 2027 presidential election in favour of President William Ruto.
The allegations were made during Gachagua's engagement with clergy in Boston, United States, where he also made other claims concerning Chivayo's alleged business dealings with Ruto.
IEBC Procurement Under Scrutiny
The claims come as the IEBC continues preparations for the 2027 General Election, including the procurement of a new Integrated Elections Management System.
The commission has previously rejected allegations that the procurement was being structured to favour Miru Systems or any other specific company.
IEBC has maintained that the technology procurement is being undertaken through a tender process and that no company had been awarded the contract when the allegations were made.
Gachagua did not provide publicly verifiable evidence to substantiate his allegations concerning Chivayo, the IEBC or the proposed technology.
The claims therefore remain allegations made by the former Deputy President and have not been independently established.
