Salasya Threatens Protests Over Mosiria’s Sacking

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has demanded Geoffrey Mosiria’s reinstatement, threatening demonstrations over his removal from Nairobi County government.

Salasya questioned Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration over the decision, insisting Nairobi residents deserved an explanation for the dismissal.

Writing on X on Friday, October 23, 2026, the legislator challenged the county leadership to explain why Mosiria lost his position.

“Geoffrey Mosiria KE arudishwe Kazi ama tuandamane nikirudi Kenya,” Salasya stated, threatening protests upon his return to the country.

The MP also questioned Mosiria’s transfers between county departments before his eventual dismissal from the administration.

Salasya Questions Mosiria’s Removal

Salasya said he was also a Nairobi resident and therefore had a right to understand the circumstances surrounding Mosiria’s departure.

He questioned why Mosiria moved from the Health department to Environment before taking charge of Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service.

“I am also a resident of Nairobi, and I have a right to know why Mosiria was removed from Environment Chief Officer to Citizen Service Delivery before sacking my brother,” he said.

Salasya further warned Sakaja against ignoring the growing controversy surrounding the former chief officer’s removal.

“Bring back Mosiria, ama akutoe kama Governor next year,” he said, referring to the 2027 General Election.

The remarks came as political attention increasingly focused on Mosiria following his declared intention to challenge Sakaja for Nairobi’s governorship.

County Reshuffle Replaces Mosiria

Mosiria was removed on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, through an administrative reshuffle announced by Nairobi County.

The changes were communicated in a notice signed by County Secretary Machel Waikenda, although the document did not specify reasons for Mosiria’s removal.

Zipporah Njeri Mwangi was assigned the Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service docket in an acting capacity.

She retained her existing responsibilities in City Culture, Arts and Tourism, with the changes taking effect immediately.

Mosiria’s dismissal came ten days after he publicly announced his intention to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.

During a Jubilee leaders’ visit to Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s Jesus Is Alive Ministries Church on October 11, he presented himself as an alternative to Sakaja.

“If you want change in Nairobi, Mosiria is the change. Mosiria will fix Nairobi,” he declared during the gathering.

He also suggested that Wanjiru could serve as his running mate, adding that he wanted to become governor.

“Sasa nataka nikuwe gavana, mama akiwa deputy wangu. Twende mbele, Mama!” Mosiria said.

Mosiria Accuses Sakaja of Sidelining Him

Following his removal, Mosiria accused Sakaja of sidelining him since December 2023, saying their working relationship had deteriorated earlier.

He described the dismissal as formal confirmation of a breakdown that he claimed had already affected his responsibilities within the county government.

“Thank you, my boss, for making my sacking official,” Mosiria wrote in a statement shared on his social media accounts.

He alleged that Sakaja withdrew his responsibilities as an accounting officer in the Health department on December 28, 2023.

According to Mosiria, the governor transferred those functions to junior officers without publicly explaining the decision to Nairobi residents.

“However, what you forgot to tell Nairobi residents and Kenyans is that you effectively dismissed me on 28th December 2023, when you took away my constitutionally assigned mandate as an accounting officer and handed it to my junior officers,” he stated.

Mosiria also claimed that the Health department’s budget under his watch was reduced following disagreements over procurement arrangements.

He said the allocation fell from KSh1.2 billion to KSh100 million, although the supplied account did not provide further details about the budget changes.

Neither the county reshuffle notice nor the statements provided established an official explanation for Mosiria’s dismissal.

Salasya’s threatened demonstrations now place additional public attention on the decision, as Nairobi’s political leadership prepares for the 2027 elections.
