Njeri Maina Releases Reggae Love Song ‘Hit and Run’

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has ventured into music, releasing a reggae love song titled Hit and Run.

The first-term legislator revealed that she wrote the song years ago but postponed its release while pursuing legal studies and other responsibilities.

“The song is officially out! So, what’s to say? I wrote this song so many years ago,” Maina said.

She explained that law school commitments and subsequent responsibilities forced her to shelve the project until this year.

Maina said she later returned to the studio after reflecting on various experiences, completing the recording within an hour.

The song and its accompanying music video were released on Thursday, attracting more than 18,000 YouTube views by Friday.

What Njeri Maina’s Song Is About

Written and performed by Maina, Hit and Run blends English and Kiswahili to explore relationships lacking genuine commitment.

The song cautions against partners who enjoy romantic attention and benefits without accepting the responsibilities that come with lasting relationships.

It encourages listeners to recognise warning signs early and walk away from relationships driven primarily by personal gain.

The title uses the idea of pursuit to portray romance in which one partner may seek affection without intending to stay.

In one scene, Maina rides a quad bike while a male admirer pursues her in an apparent attempt to win her affection.

The sequence reinforces the song’s central message about distinguishing genuine commitment from relationships built around temporary interests.

Kirinyaga Politicians Feature in Music Video

Two of Maina’s political allies, Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango and Baragwi MCA Duncan Mathenge, also appear in the video.

The two leaders take on roles as male video models, stepping away from their usual political responsibilities for the production.

Murango portrays a wealthy man, while Mathenge appears as a watchman in the music video.

Their appearances add familiar political faces to the production as Maina explores a different creative side of her public life.

The song’s audio was produced by Dr Eddie, while Danlee directed the video.

Afrikana Photo Studios handled the video production, completing the team behind the release.

Njeri Maina’s Career Before Music

Maina was elected Kirinyaga Woman Representative in 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

Born on January 3, 1994, in Kibingoti, Kirinyaga County, she built her professional career in law before entering politics.

She attended Kiangoma Primary School and Kabare Girls High School before studying Mandarin at Kenyatta University.

Maina later earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 2016.

She obtained a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law in 2017 before advancing her legal career.

Before joining elective politics, she headed litigation at Mathenge Wambogu and Advocates.

She subsequently became managing partner at Njeri Maina Law Advocates, combining legal practice with her growing public profile.

The release of Hit and Run adds music to Maina’s activities beyond Parliament, introducing audiences to another aspect of her interests.
