Manyora Warns Kalonzo Over Gachagua-Sifuna Meeting

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Wamunyoro Residence
Political analyst Herman Manyora has cautioned Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka over the possible political implications of a meeting between Rigathi Gachagua and Edwin Sifuna. He suggested the engagement could influence negotiations over who leads the United Opposition into the 2027 General Election.

The meeting took place at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence and brought together the former deputy president and Nairobi senator. Speaking during his YouTube political analysis on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Manyora examined what the meeting could mean for opposition politics.

According to Manyora, the emerging relationship could affect Kalonzo’s ambitions to become the opposition coalition’s presidential candidate. He argued that the meeting might signal shifting political alliances and changing calculations ahead of the election.

Manyora Sees a Political Signal

Manyora suggested that the engagement could communicate a message to Kalonzo about where political influence within the opposition currently lies. He argued that the Wiper leader should carefully assess the relationships forming around Gachagua and Sifuna.

“They could be sending a signal to Kalonzo that ‘Look here, man; here is where power lies,” Manyora said. He added that the message could encourage Kalonzo to join their side and accept whatever position the emerging arrangement offers.

The analyst described Gachagua as an influential figure in the opposition but distinguished influence from absolute political power. He cautioned against assuming that the former deputy president would necessarily seek the presidency himself.

Manyora suggested Gachagua could instead play a decisive role in determining the coalition’s presidential candidate. Such influence could become important as opposition leaders negotiate positions and strategies for the 2027 contest.

Why Gachagua and Sifuna Matter

Manyora has previously highlighted Gachagua and Sifuna as politicians who could challenge President William Ruto in the next election. In an earlier analysis, he argued that either politician, or both working together, could provide a formidable opposition challenge.

During that discussion, Manyora said Kenya needed leaders prepared to defend their electoral victories. He also criticised the possibility of post-election political arrangements that could compromise the wishes of voters.

The analyst argued that Gachagua and Sifuna represented the kind of assertive leadership some voters wanted. However, these comments reflected his political assessment rather than an established prediction about the election outcome.

A Possible Gachagua-Sifuna Partnership

Manyora also examined the possibility of Gachagua and Sifuna working together politically. He argued that a formal partnership could strengthen public confidence in their ability to mount a coordinated challenge.

According to the analyst, cooperation between the two could attract wider support among voters seeking an alternative to the current administration. He maintained that the opposition’s prospects could depend partly on whether influential figures coordinate their efforts.

“To beat Ruto, you need either Gachagua or Sifuna, or both of them,” Manyora said in his earlier assessment. He presented cooperation between the two politicians as one possible route for opposition leaders seeking to challenge the president.

Opposition Leadership Remains Unsettled

The meeting has added another development to the political discussions surrounding the opposition’s 2027 strategy. However, the available information does not establish that Gachagua and Sifuna have agreed on a joint presidential bid or a formal political pact.

Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions could become part of wider coalition negotiations as opposition leaders consider their options. The eventual candidate and the structure of any alliance will depend on decisions made by the politicians and their respective political groups.

Manyora’s warning centres on the need for Kalonzo to recognise changing relationships within the opposition. Whether the Wamunyoro meeting leads to a new alliance or affects coalition leadership remains to be seen.
