Kenyan Woman Rescued From Suspected Prostitution Racket in India

A Kenyan woman has been rescued from a suspected prostitution racket during a police operation targeting two hotels in Patna, India.

The rescue was carried out on Saturday night, October 3, in the Danapur subdivision, located about 14 kilometres west of central Patna.

The Kenyan woman was among three women reportedly rescued during coordinated raids at the two hotels.

Police reportedly recovered a copy of her passport during the operation as authorities began verifying her identity and circumstances.

She was subsequently placed in protective custody as investigations into the suspected racket continued.

Police seize phones and hotel records

During the second raid, two other women were rescued as police searched the premises for evidence linked to the suspected operation.

Two mobile phones, objectionable items and a hotel register were reportedly seized during the operation.

The recovered material is being examined as investigators seek to establish how the women were brought to the hotels.

Police are also investigating possible intermediaries and other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged racket.

Two hotel managers were arrested following the raids, according to reports by The Times of India.

Kenyan woman placed under protection

Authorities were reportedly continuing to establish the circumstances under which the Kenyan woman ended up at the hotel.

Diplomatic and consular procedures are expected to be followed as Indian authorities continue with the investigation.

The Kenyan woman is being kept under protective custody while further inquiries are conducted.

Investigators are also expected to examine hotel records and electronic evidence recovered during the operation.

Wider concerns over trafficking of Kenyan women

The rescue comes amid previous warnings concerning the trafficking of Kenyan women to Asian countries.

Kenyan authorities have warned that some victims can be targeted through fraudulent overseas employment opportunities advertised online.

According to previous warnings from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, individuals seeking jobs abroad can be lured with promises of employment before being exposed to trafficking networks.

In some reported cases, victims have been taken to Asian countries using short-term tourist or medical visas.

The latest rescue in Patna has therefore placed renewed attention on the need for caution when responding to overseas job offers whose authenticity has not been verified.
