Homa Bay Police Arrest Hammer Boys Gang Leader Abdi, Seven Others

Police in Homa Bay have arrested Kassim Abdi Sebo, popularly known as Abdi, who was wanted over an assault case, alongside seven other men accused of obstructing officers during the operation.

Sebo was arrested at Homa Bay Bus Stage on Thursday night while officers executed a warrant issued by the Homa Bay Law Courts on August 14, 2026. Police said the operation was conducted at around 9:55pm by officers from Homa Bay Police Station and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.

Seven Men Arrested During Operation

According to police, the arrest turned chaotic when men accompanying Sebo allegedly attempted to prevent officers from carrying out the warrant. Additional officers were deployed, and the seven men were arrested alongside the wanted suspect.

The suspects were identified as Victor Odhiambo Achiando, Isaac Masika Muliro, also known as Waigo, Moses Geoffrey Oyege, Geoffrey Njore, Wesley Arnold Odhiambo, alias Mwas, Joseph Kobila and Alfred Nyagiro Aliwa.

All eight suspects were being held pending arraignment in court. Sebo is wanted over an alleged offence of assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 251 of the Penal Code.

Gang Leader Linked to Other Investigations

Police have described Sebo as the leader of the Hammer Boys gang and linked him to investigations into alleged robberies and assault incidents in the area. However, the claims remain subject to investigation and court proceedings.

His arrest also comes amid scrutiny over deadly unrest in Homa Bay, where at least 10 people, including a police officer, were reportedly killed and scores injured in clashes. Investigators have been examining the circumstances surrounding the violence and allegations of organised political mobilisation.

Police had previously directed Sebo to report to DCI officers at the Homa Bay County headquarters to assist with investigations into the unrest. Reports indicated that he did not comply with the directive.

The latest operation is expected to form part of ongoing efforts by investigators to establish responsibility for the alleged offences and determine whether the arrested suspects were involved in other criminal activities.

Authorities have not established the guilt of the suspects, who remain subject to the legal process as investigations continue.
