HELB Releases New Student Loan Payments for Seven Batches Ahead of New Academic Year

Students awaiting government funding have been urged to check their loan status after the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) announced another round of disbursements. The board confirmed that seven dispatch batches had been processed and paid as of Friday, October 9, 2026.

In an update posted on its official X account on Monday, October 12, HELB asked learners to confirm whether their batch numbers appeared on the latest list. The announcement comes as universities and colleges prepare for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Check Whether Your Batch Is on the List

The seven batches listed in the latest update are HELB-007062, HELB-007166, HELB-007170, HELB-007171, HELB-007163, HELB-007150 and HELB-007148.

Students whose batch numbers appear on the list are encouraged to confirm their individual funding status through the official Higher Education Financing (HEF) portal. Those who have not received a batch number should also check their application details through the same official platform.

The announcement follows concerns among learners who have been waiting for loan allocations and payments ahead of the new semester. Some students depend on the funds to meet tuition, accommodation, food and other expenses while pursuing their studies.

Funding Shortages Raise Questions

HELB’s latest announcement comes amid wider concerns over the availability of funds for university and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students. Reports in August indicated that about 140,000 students had yet to receive funding, with a reported shortfall of KSh5.7 billion.

The funding pressure has increased calls for timely disbursements to ensure that eligible learners can continue their education without unnecessary financial difficulties. However, the latest batch announcement does not confirm that all students awaiting funding have been paid.

Students Warned Against Loan Scams

Alongside loan updates, HELB has cautioned students and parents against fraudsters promising to secure first-time loans in exchange for payment. The board has warned about fake WhatsApp groups claiming to offer assistance with applications.

Applicants have been advised to rely on HELB’s official website and verified social media accounts for accurate information. Students should avoid sharing sensitive personal details or sending money to individuals who claim they can guarantee loan approval.

With the new academic year approaching, learners are encouraged to monitor their application status through official channels and confirm their batch details before making financial decisions based on unverified online claims.
