The lawmaker said he escaped together with his driver after abandoning their vehicle during the confrontation. He alleged that the attackers later vandalised the vehicle before leaving the scene.
According to Kega, the group caught up with his convoy at Kasuku Centre in neighbouring Ol Jororok Constituency. He claimed he and his driver fled on foot after sensing imminent danger.
The legislator later sought refuge at a nearby home, where a local family sheltered him. Videos shared online showed Kega speaking from the residence shortly after the incident.
Police Recover Live Ammunition
Police officers later visited the scene to assess what had happened after the reported attack. Authorities recovered several live rounds near the damaged vehicle during the initial investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been officially explained by police. Investigators are expected to establish what happened and identify those involved.
While addressing Kenyans from the home where he had taken shelter, Kega claimed armed officers had chased him. He alleged they pointed guns at him and his driver before they managed to escape.
The EALA legislator described the incident as an attempt to intimidate him because of his political activities. He insisted that the experience would not stop him from participating in future campaigns.
Political Tensions Remain High
The alleged attack comes as political temperatures continue rising ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election. Recent campaign events have witnessed isolated incidents of violence involving rival political supporters.
Security agencies have repeatedly appealed to politicians and their supporters to maintain peace during campaigns. Authorities continue monitoring political activities as the constituency prepares to elect its next Member of Parliament.
