Kenya Met Predicts Rainfall in Five Regions This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast rainfall in five regions during this week's weather outlook. The department expects showers to affect several parts of the country alongside cold conditions in some areas.

KMD released the forecast on Tuesday, June 30. The department identified the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley and the Coast among the regions likely to receive rainfall.

Regions Expected to Receive Rain

The weatherman said residents in western Kenya should prepare for wet conditions throughout the week. Morning rain will affect parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and sections of the Rift Valley.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms could develop in several areas. Some places may also experience light showers during the night under partly cloudy skies.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and Kiambu counties, will start most mornings with cloudy conditions. A few places may receive occasional rainfall before sunshine breaks through later in the day.

Afternoon showers could return in isolated areas before extending into the night. Residents should therefore expect changing weather conditions during the week.

Coast to Experience Isolated Showers

The Coast region will experience warm conditions for much of the day. Sunny intervals will dominate before clouds increase later in the evening.

Morning and afternoon showers could develop in a few coastal areas. Nights will remain partly cloudy across most parts of the region.

Cold Nights and Hot Days Expected

KMD also warned that cool and cloudy conditions will persist in several regions. The Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley and North Eastern Kenya will experience lower daytime temperatures.

Night temperatures will fall below 10 degrees Celsius in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and areas surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro. Residents in those regions may experience chilly nights throughout the forecast period.

Meanwhile, daytime temperatures will exceed 30 degrees Celsius in the Coast, North Eastern and North Western Kenya. The department advised residents in hotter areas to prepare for warm afternoons despite the rainfall forecast elsewhere.

Previous Forecast

The latest outlook follows another rainfall forecast issued last week. On Friday, June 26, KMD predicted rainfall across the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.

The department also warned of cool and cloudy conditions in parts of the Highlands, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley and North Eastern Kenya. Despite the expected showers, KMD noted that many parts of the country will remain generally dry during the forecast period.
