Riara University Investigates Viral Video Allegedly Showing Student Assault

An internal investigation has been opened by Riara University after a video allegedly showing a woman being assaulted by several others went viral online.

The institution said some of the people appearing in the footage have reportedly been identified as its students, although their identities have not been independently established.

The university confirmed that it had become aware of reports connecting some individuals in the video to the institution.
The development prompted university officials to begin reviewing the matter under the institution’s Student Code of Conduct and other internal policies.

“It has come to our attention that some of the individuals depicted in the video are reportedly students at Riara University,” the institution said.
The university did not confirm the identities of those shown or provide details about what allegedly happened before the recording began.

Video Shows Physical Confrontation

The footage circulating online appears to show several young women inside what looks like a washroom.
One woman is seen confronting another before the encounter appears to become physical.

A woman with maroon-coloured hair appears to hold the other woman around the neck area before pushing her towards a wall.
The woman being confronted appears to attempt to move away while two other women remain nearby.

One of those watching the confrontation is seen covering her mouth as the incident unfolds.
However, the circumstances leading to the confrontation and what happened after the recording remain unclear.

The identities of the people appearing in the footage have also not been independently verified.
The university’s statement therefore focused on the reported connection between some of those shown and the institution rather than confirming individual identities.

University Condemns Violence and Bullying

Riara University said violence, intimidation, bullying, harassment and other forms of misconduct were unacceptable under its institutional standards.
The institution noted that the alleged incident appeared to have occurred away from campus but said this did not remove the relevance of its student conduct requirements.

“While the alleged event occurred off-campus, such behaviour directly contradicts our institutional values and our code of conduct for students,” the university stated.
The institution said its leadership had consequently commenced an internal review to establish the circumstances surrounding the matter.

The viral footage has attracted widespread reactions online, with members of the public calling for accountability over the conduct depicted.
No independent findings had been announced by the university regarding responsibility for the alleged assault at the time of its statement.

Authorities May Be Involved

The university said it was prepared to cooperate with investigative authorities as inquiries into the matter continue.
Its position leaves the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident subject to further investigation and verification.

“The University leadership has initiated an internal review of the matter in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct and institutional policies, and we are committed to cooperation with investigative authorities,” the university said.
