Methu Accuses Nyoro, Matiang'i of Being Ruto’s ‘Moles’ in Opposition Ahead of 2027 Polls
Methu Raises Questions Over Nyoro’s Political Moves
Speaking during a Citizen TV interview on Sunday, October 11, Methu accused President William Ruto of allegedly using Nyoro to weaken the opposition from within. He claimed that he had also received an offer similar to the one he believes was extended to the Kiharu MP.
Methu said he was surprised when Nyoro announced his political party, claiming that the MP had previously described another party as a creation of President Ruto. He consequently suggested that Nyoro could be working against the opposition, although no evidence was presented to establish the allegation.
“If I was to name moles, then I think the name Ndindi Nyoro will feature prominently,” Methu said during the interview. His remarks have added to the political tension surrounding efforts to establish a united opposition front ahead of the next election.
Matiang’i Also Comes Under Scrutiny
The Nyandarua senator also questioned Matiang’i’s position within the opposition, pointing to his close political association with Nyoro. According to Methu, the two leaders have appeared together at political rallies, raising questions in his mind about whether they share the same political intentions.
Methu admitted that he had previously believed he understood Matiang’i well but was now uncertain about the former Cabinet secretary’s position. However, his concerns remain allegations, and they do not establish that Matiang’i or Nyoro is working with the government.
Both Matiang’i and Nyoro have maintained that they belong to the wider opposition and would support whichever leader is chosen to carry its presidential ticket. Their stated position contrasts with growing suspicions among some opposition allies over the possibility of competing political ambitions.
Kalonzo Wins Methu’s Confidence
While expressing doubts about some opposition figures, Methu strongly defended Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka. He cited Kalonzo’s support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the 2024 impeachment process as evidence of his reliability.
Methu argued that Kalonzo stood with Gachagua when doing so was politically difficult and when he had little to gain from the decision. He said that experience had strengthened his confidence in the Wiper leader.
The comments followed Gachagua’s warning that an opposition principal could leave the coalition if another candidate was selected to challenge President Ruto. The opposition is yet to settle on a single presidential candidate for the 2027 polls.
Jubilee’s Position Adds to Coalition Pressure
The latest disagreement has also emerged as questions are raised about Jubilee’s place in the Ukombozi Alliance, which is led by Kalonzo. Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni recently called for the party to reconsider its position, arguing that it was not receiving sufficient respect within the alliance.
Kioni urged Jubilee to assess its options and consider other political arrangements if its concerns were not addressed. These developments have highlighted the challenges facing opposition leaders as they attempt to balance individual presidential ambitions with their stated goal of presenting a united challenge to Ruto.
