KQ Passenger Dies After Medical Emergency on Nairobi-Lagos Flight
Emergency Response Began Before Landing
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, during a scheduled Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos. The airline said the passenger was found unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before the aircraft reached its destination.
Cabin crew responded immediately and administered first aid while following their established emergency procedures. The aircraft continued its journey and landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at approximately 9:41pm Nigerian time.
Medical personnel were already waiting when the aircraft arrived. After examining the passenger, the medical team confirmed that the individual had died.
Kenya Airways Offers Condolences
Kenya Airways expressed its condolences to the deceased passenger's family and friends. The airline said it was providing necessary support while working closely with the family, local authorities and aviation regulators.
The carrier did not publicly disclose the passenger's identity or the circumstances surrounding the medical emergency. It also emphasised that the privacy and dignity of those involved would be respected.
The incident was treated as a medical emergency involving a passenger and was not reported as an aircraft safety incident.
Airline Previously Reported Tyre Burst
The latest development comes several months after another KQ flight experienced a separate incident in South Africa. A Nairobi-Cape Town flight landed safely at Cape Town International Airport in August before suffering a tyre burst during landing.
KQ said its crew followed established safety procedures and all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated. The airline has not linked the two incidents.
