KNEC Sets Friday Rehearsal for KPSEA and KJSEA Candidates

KPSEA and KJSEA candidates will hold their rehearsals on Friday, October 23, 2026. The real assessments begin on Monday, October 26.

KPSEA ends on October 28, while KJSEA continues until October 30. KPLEA and KILEA also start on October 26 and end on October 29.

Why Rehearsal Matters

KNEC uses rehearsal day to confirm that every centre is ready for the assessments. It also checks that officers know their roles and candidates understand the rules.

About 3.4 million learners will sit national tests this season. They include 1,303,913 in KPSEA, 1,145,585 in KJSEA, and 996,078 in KCSE.

Officers Running Centres

KNEC has contracted 342,005 professionals as centre managers, supervisors, invigilators, and script markers. Each centre gets one supervisor for every 200 candidates and one invigilator for every 20.

Officers cannot serve at a school where they worked in the last three years. They must also declare any personal interest in their assigned centre.

Preparing the Centre

Centre managers allocate a secure room with a lockable cabinet for examination materials. Supervisors and invigilators then inspect rooms to ensure no charts, posters, or notes remain on walls or desks.

Officers arrange desks by assessment number for KPSEA and KJSEA candidates. Supervisors also brief invigilators and assign their duties for the whole assessment period.

What Candidates Will Learn

Officers will brief candidates on instructions, conduct guidelines, and penalties for breaking rules. Candidates will also find their own desks by assessment number.

Both assessments include multiple-choice questions answered on Optical Mark Reader sheets. Candidates must shade the ellipses fully and must never strike through them.

KNEC has posted sample OMR sheets on the CBA Grade 6 portal. Parents and teachers can download them for practice before Monday.

Assessment Day Routine

KNEC releases KPSEA and KJSEA materials once each morning, when containers open at 6:00 a.m. Officers open packets five minutes before the start time, after identifying the correct box.

Centre managers record daily attendance online on the CP2 system. Officers place the sealed paper of an absent candidate on the desk in full view.

Counterfoils must stay attached to scripts until the paper's time ends. Detaching one early counts as an examination irregularity.

Phones and Visitors

Officers lock all phones and electronic devices outside the exam room, including those of teachers and security officers. Supervisors hold the key, and learners should leave phones, smartwatches, and notes at home.

Only authorised officers and staff may enter examination centres during the assessment period. Parents should drop their children at the gate and wait outside.

Security and Reporting

KNEC monitoring officers can go straight to exam rooms without first reporting to the head's office. School gates must stay open from 6:00 a.m. until the day's materials leave.

Anyone can report malpractice to KNEC, anonymously if they prefer, on 0800721410 or 0800724900. People with complaints about security officers can call IPOA on the toll-free line 1559.

Special Circumstances

Centre managers must report a hospitalised candidate outside their sub-county by 5:00 p.m. the day before the paper. Officers must not declare such candidates absent.

Centres with blind candidates who use touch readers should have an invigilator who knows Braille. Parents who need special arrangements should speak to the school head before Friday.

Advice for Candidates and Parents

Candidates should memorise their assessment numbers and practise shading sample OMR sheets. They should also arrive early and rested.

Parents should keep the mood at home calm and check that children have stationery and breakfast. Good sleep helps performance more than late-night cramming.
