Kalonzo Heads to UK to Outline Opposition Plans Ahead of 2027 Elections
According to Wiper spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru, Musyoka arrived in London for an official programme covering regional financial markets, trade and investment opportunities. The engagements are expected to bring together stakeholders interested in Kenya and the wider East African economy.
Kalonzo Attends House of Commons Business Reception
Musyoka attended a special evening reception at the UK House of Commons, where he served as the chief guest. The event was organised by the Westminster Africa Business Group in partnership with the Eastern Africa Association.
The reception was hosted by Sir Gavin Williamson, a Conservative MP and chair of the Westminster Africa Business Group. Its theme was “Kenya as a Regional Financial Hub and the Future of East African Capital Markets.”
Discussions are focused on Kenya's potential to become a regional financial centre and attract investment from international markets. Participants are also exploring ways to mobilise African capital, expand trade and strengthen economic cooperation between Kenya, Britain and other countries.
Njiru said the engagements were intended to promote partnerships that could support economic transformation across Africa. However, details of specific investment agreements or commitments arising from the visit were not provided in the statement.
Opposition Leader Set for Chatham House Address
Musyoka is scheduled to speak at Chatham House on Tuesday, October 13, where he will outline the opposition's outlook and policy priorities ahead of the next General Election. His keynote address is titled “The Opposition’s Outlook and Policy Agenda on the Road to 10 August 2027.”
The address comes as political parties and opposition leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls. According to Wiper, Musyoka's speech will explain the opposition's direction and its priorities for Kenya as the election approaches.
The visit therefore combines economic engagement with political discussions at a time when attention is increasingly shifting towards the next election. The statement did not provide further details on the specific policy proposals expected to feature in his address.
Kalonzo Responds to Uhuru's Resignation From Coalition Leadership
The London visit follows Musyoka's statement on the leadership changes within The Ukombozi Alliance after former President Uhuru Kenyatta resigned from his coalition leadership position. On October 7, Musyoka said the coalition had received Kenyatta's resignation letter dated October 5.
Musyoka thanked the former President for his leadership and said the resignation did not mean he had left the wider political coalition. He added that Kenyatta remained a member who could continue offering advice and support.
The Wiper leader also said the coalition had accepted Kenyatta's call to remain inclusive and uphold democratic governance and the rule of law. Musyoka indicated that an official visit would be arranged for a handover ceremony, although further details were not provided.
