Cape Media Announces New Acting CEO and Editorial Chief After Leadership Exits

Cape Media has named two senior managers to temporarily lead its business and newsroom following the departure of its former top executives. June Akinyi Ndinya has been appointed acting Chief Executive Officer, while Keneth Kadzomba Kazungu will serve as acting Editor-in-Chief.

The appointments, announced on Saturday, October 10, 2026, take effect immediately as the company prepares to recruit permanent office holders. Cape Media is the parent company of TV 47, Radio 47 and Cape Studios.

June Ndinya Takes Over as Acting CEO

Ndinya has been elevated from her previous position as Creative Director to oversee the company's overall operations. She succeeds Mwenda Njoka, who assumed the CEO role in June 2024.

Her appointment was informed by her experience in the media industry, leadership abilities and understanding of Cape Media's strategic plans. She is expected to work with the management team to maintain operations and ensure the company's priorities continue to be implemented.

Ndinya brings more than 24 years of experience in television, film and creative production. Her professional portfolio includes productions such as MTV Shuga Mashariki, Selina, Flash Squad, Mali and Machachari.

She was also associated with Prefects, which received an International Emmy Awards nomination in 2025, alongside NGen. Her experience in creative production is expected to support her as she takes charge of the media group's day-to-day management.

Kazungu Assumes Editorial Leadership

Meanwhile, Kazungu has been appointed to head Cape Media's editorial operations following the exit of Simon Macharia Gachuru. Before the latest appointment, he served as Managing Editor and Deputy Editorial Director.

Kazungu has accumulated 16 years of experience in journalism, covering reporting, news presentation, editing and newsroom management. His new responsibilities include overseeing editorial work and maintaining professional standards across the company's media platforms.

The acting Editor-in-Chief will be expected to uphold accuracy, fairness, balance and accountability in the organisation's news coverage. His appointment is intended to provide continuity in newsroom leadership as the company undergoes the transition.

Recruitment for Permanent Leaders Planned

In a memo signed by board representative Farida Karoney, the company acknowledged the contributions made by Njoka and Gachuru during their time in leadership. The board also wished the outgoing executives well in their future endeavours.

Cape Media confirmed that a recruitment process would be undertaken to identify permanent replacements for both positions. In the meantime, Ndinya and Kazungu will oversee the company's business and editorial functions in their acting capacities.

The leadership changes affect a media group with interests spanning television broadcasting, radio and content production. The next phase will involve the search for substantive office holders as Cape Media seeks to maintain continuity across its operations.
