TSC Moves to Recruit 2026 KCSE and Assessment Officials

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched preparations to select teachers who will supervise the 2026 national examinations and assessments.

The commission is working through Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), who are collecting information from heads of institutions on teachers eligible for examination duties.

KNEC Sets Deployment Rules

The names and details collected will be uploaded to the Kenya National Examinations Council's CP2 deployment platform.

Sub-County Directors of Education must ensure suitable teachers are nominated and their information captured by the end of September.

KNEC will only consider teachers who meet the required qualifications and are either employed or registered by TSC.

The system will also apply restrictions when assigning examination officials to centres.

Teachers Face Three-Year Deployment Rule

Supervisors and Invigilators will not be assigned to schools where they have worked during the previous three years.

The measure is part of efforts to strengthen the integrity and independence of the examination process.

Teachers will also be required to disclose possible conflicts of interest before receiving deployment.

An official who has a relative sitting an examination at the centre, for example, must declare the relationship.

KNEC will move such officials to other examination centres.

2026 Examination Calendar

The exercise comes ahead of a busy national assessment period beginning in October.

KCSE candidates will sit their examinations from October 19 to November 20.

KPSEA written papers will take place between October 26 and 28, while KJSEA and KILEA are scheduled for October 26 to 30.

KPLEA will run from October 26 to 29.

Schools Ordered to Restrict Events

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has directed schools to limit activities involving external visitors during the examination period.

Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa instructed schools not to organise prayer sessions for candidates involving parents, outsiders and other visitors during the period.

Schools have also been directed to hold AGMs during the first or second term.

Prize-giving ceremonies, thanksgiving services and dedicated candidate prayer days should similarly take place in the second term.

The ministry has also suspended annual leave for officers during the national examination and assessment period.

The measures are intended to minimise disruptions and provide candidates with a controlled environment during the 2026 examination season.
