Manchester City's 115 Charges Case Moving to Appeal After Tribunal Verdict

An independent tribunal has reportedly reached decisions on Manchester City's financial charges completely. Reports claim that the majority of the alleged breaches were found proven by the tribunal.

The three-person independent commission heard evidence from September 16 to December 6, 2024. The 12-week hearing examined allegations spanning a nine-year period from 2009 to 2018.

Manchester City Charged with Over 130 Financial Rule Breaches by Premier League

The Premier League charged Manchester City with breaking Financial Fair Play rules completely. The actual number of alleged breaches is believed to be 130, not 115 officially.

Manchester City denied all charges and maintained their position throughout the entire process. The club insisted they had provided a comprehensive body of irrefutable supporting evidence.

Secret Manager Contracts and Hidden Payments Among Most Serious Alleged Financial Violations

The Premier League alleges City failed to fully disclose manager financial remunerations completely. One manager allegedly received undisclosed payments through secret contracts over a four-year period.

Manchester City allegedly breached UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules over a five-year period. The club faced UEFA charges that resulted in previous sanctions in 2020.

Court of Arbitration for Sport Lifted UEFA Ban in 2020 Following Appeal

The CAS reduced UEFA's €30 million fine to €10 million in 2020. The court ruled that most alleged breaches were either not established or time-barred.

The Premier League can investigate breaches going back to 2009 without time restrictions. UEFA statute only allows prosecutions within a five-year period from alleged violation date.

Independent Commission Can Impose Points Deduction, Fine or Expulsion Punishment Completely

Premier League rules allow the commission to punish City in any way. No set sanctions grid exists currently because clubs rejected predetermined punishment schedules previously.

Everton received a six-point deduction in 2023-24 for Profitability and Sustainability breaches. Nottingham Forest lost four points the same season for similar financial rule violations.

Manchester City Likely to Appeal If Any Charges Are Proven Against Club

Both sides can appeal within 14 days of the tribunal's final judgment. City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak previously said he would spend £30 million on lawyers.

The Appeal Board must include one member with previous judicial office experience. The appeals proceedings remain confidential and are heard entirely in private settings.

Appeal Board Holds Wide Discretion to Allow, Dismiss or Vary Orders

The new panel can allow the appeal, dismiss it, or modify orders. City cannot appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in this case.

The Premier League is not commenting on any aspect of the case. Manchester City confirmed the process remains ongoing with significant elements yet to complete.
