IEBC Announces Polling and Counting Clerk Jobs in Mwingi West

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced opportunities for polling and counting clerks in Mwingi West Constituency. Successful applicants will support election officials with voter management, ballot issuance, queue control and vote counting.

Duties of Polling and Counting Clerks

The clerks will work under the direction of the Presiding Officer throughout the electoral exercise. Their responsibilities will begin with preparations at polling stations and counting rooms.

They will assist with arranging polling stations and counting areas before voting begins. Clerks will also be required to place and display relevant posters and demarcations at polling centres.

Queue management will form part of their responsibilities during voting. They will guide voters and help ensure that voters proceed to their designated polling stations.

Clerks will also check voters' fingers for indelible marks before they are allowed to vote. Voters will then be identified against the register before stamped ballot papers are issued.

After voting closes, the successful applicants will assist the Presiding Officer with sorting ballots as part of the counting process. They may also be assigned additional official duties by the Presiding Officer.

Requirements for Applicants

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens of high integrity and must remain non-partisan while undertaking the assignment. A minimum KCSE grade of C- is required for appointment.

Candidates must also be of good character and available throughout the entire period of the electoral exercise. Applicants are required to be residents of the relevant County Assembly Ward.

The position therefore requires applicants who can remain available and perform their duties without partisan involvement. Successful candidates will be expected to follow instructions issued by the Presiding Officer and other authorised election officials.

Clerks to Earn KSh1,000 Per Day

Those appointed as polling and counting clerks will receive a daily wage of KSh1,000. The payment will apply for the days on which the clerks perform their assigned official duties.
