Former Gachagua's Aide George Theuri Joins ODM, Eyes Embakasi West Parliamentary Comeback

Embakasi West's former MP George Theuri formally joined the Orange Democratic Movement on Tuesday, September 29. ODM Secretary General Catherine Omanyo received Theuri at a Nairobi event, marking his political realignment.

Theuri pledged his support and allegiance to ODM and Kenya's broad-based government structure. His entry into ODM places him in a new political camp ahead of 2027 elections.

Departure from Gachagua's Political Circle
Theuri previously served as a personal aide to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after losing Parliament. He cited non-participatory leadership and intolerance towards alternative views within Gachagua's political camp.

Theuri contested Embakasi West on a United Democratic Alliance ticket in 2022 but lost. Jubilee Party's Mark Mwenje defeated him in the closely watched constituency race.

Earlier Parliamentary Success
Theuri first entered Parliament in 2013 after winning the newly created Embakasi West constituency. He retained the seat in 2017 after switching to the Jubilee Party.

Comeback Plans Taking Shape
Reports indicate Theuri is now considering a return to Embakasi West for the 2027 contest. Preparations for a possible comeback have already begun within the constituency.

His move to ODM adds to the continuing political realignments taking place before 2027. Parties across Kenya are reorganising as leaders position themselves for the next election.

ODM welcomed Theuri with its signature message: "In ODM we make dreams come true." The party sees his addition as strengthening its political position ahead of elections.
