The President made the announcement during the State Concert for the 98th Kenya Music Festival held at Bungoma State Lodge on Friday.
Government Rewards Festival Participation
Ruto said the funding would recognise the effort that schools and colleges put into music, drama and other creative arts competitions.
He noted that more than 30 institutions participated in the event and deserved support to continue nurturing talent among learners.
Funds Target Creative Infrastructure
The President instructed Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to start the process of releasing the funds to the participating institutions.
According to Ruto, the money should help schools improve facilities used for music, drama, dance and other creative activities.
He also encouraged institutions to invest in better rehearsal spaces, equipment and preparations for future festivals.
Creative Arts Receive Fresh Government Attention
The announcement signals growing government interest in expanding support for the creative economy within the education sector.
Ruto said young people who excel in creative arts should receive stronger institutional support, similar to learners who succeed in other national competitions.
More Than Ksh150 Million Could Be Released
If all participating schools and colleges receive the full allocation, the government could spend more than Ksh150 million under the directive.
The move comes as the administration continues to promote talent development, arts education and youth empowerment as part of its broader national development agenda.
Education stakeholders are now expected to await detailed guidelines from the Ministry of Education on how the institutions will access and utilise the proposed funding.
