Makau Mutua Tells Sifuna to Quit ODM

Senior Advisor on Constitutional Affairs in the Office of the President, Professor Makau Mutua, has urged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to leave ODM. He argued that Sifuna should stop fighting a party he no longer appears to support.

Speaking during a television interview on Sunday, June 28, Mutua criticised the senator's continued stay in the party. He claimed ODM would survive without Sifuna.

“I don’t understand why Sifuna is fighting to keep on sucking on Mama’s tit of ODM. He should get the hell out. He should not waste time there because he does not like the party,” Mutua said.

Mutua also accused Sifuna of turning against the party that elevated his political career. He said the senator should show humility instead of confronting ODM leadership.

“ODM will outlast him. Sifuna was picked by Baba from political obscurity and made the SG of the party,” Mutua added.

Osotsi Makes Similar Call

Mutua's remarks came days after Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi advised Sifuna to abandon his legal fight over the Secretary-General position. Osotsi said he would personally ask Sifuna to move on from the dispute.

Speaking at a funeral in Emuhaya Constituency on Friday, June 26, Osotsi claimed ODM had changed after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He argued that the party had frustrated leaders who remained loyal.

Osotsi said the courts had already questioned Sifuna's first removal. He criticised ODM for attempting to remove him again despite that ruling.

Sifuna Rejects Removal

The latest criticism follows ODM's decision to remove Sifuna from the Secretary-General position for a second time. The move has deepened divisions within the party.

Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi team rejected the decision on June 23. The team argued that ODM repeated an unfair and unconstitutional process previously challenged in court.

His legal team has maintained that the latest decision violates the party's constitution. They have vowed to challenge the removal before the courts once again.
